It's already September and summer has flown by as usual. It has been a good one! We welcomed a new boat to the working fleet, Faded Dog Daze, a Catalina 22. She joined the fleet thanks to Andy and Johanne. August brought a new family to join in on our rental weeks, the Hardcastle family enjoyed a full house and summery weather fun. Also in August Lexi, Camille and her friend Daisy joined us for a few days followed by Portia and entourage, Alasdair with friend Parker, and Oscar with buddies Louie and Asher. There was a lot of tubing along with boat driving lessons for Alasdair. Next in line, good friend Martine arrived with Kareem and his daughters for a good visit. Labor Day weekend was well attended by many family members. Sheila celebrated her 70th Birthday with her sister, brother, and niece, and grandniece. Newlyweds Jack and Emily (Wastrom) attended with baby Ruby and Ellie.
We held the first Lawrence family Regatta . For the Senior Classic, adults drew the name of water craft out of a hat, then raced the open style race around the marker buoy in front of camp. Chelsea took the 1st prize. Oscar won the youth race by Keowee Kayak.
The Regatta's main event was an hour long race between Dolgo, captained by Chuck and crewed by "The Dolgo Dominators" and Faded Dog Daze, captained by Andrew and crewed by "The Prirates of the Catalina". Jack and Kent drove Boaty (McBoat-face) out as a race marker and with a little more than a little confusion, the race at first appeared to have been won by Faded Dog Daze. However, further investigation determined that she had not gone around the second race marker and the race was declared a draw. A fun time was had by all and the golden trophy cookie was shared by all. Ian won the award for Best Pirate, not only for bearing the closest resemblance to an actual pirate, but also for having pirated his way into "The Pirates of the Catalina" crew.
